程式邁向移動化可說是大勢所趨，而 Microsoft 旗下的 Skype 也是其中一員。最近 Skype 官網上的 FAQ 頁出現了一條問答，解釋為什麼一些支援 Skype 功能的第三方程式可能會在 2013 年 12 月之時停止運作或出現問題。他們指出現時桌面版 Skype 的 API 是已經是 2004 年的產物，由於當時的設計並沒有考慮到移動裝置的發展問題，所以他們決定在 2013 年 12 月將現有的 API 退休。用新 API 的好處就是所有平台上的 Skype 都會得到較好的通話質素、運作速度和在移動裝置上更省電；但壞處就是基於現有 API 而提供支援的第三方軟體將停止運作或出現問題了。
